Description

Route: Maurach Achensee - Falzthurnalm - Grameialm - Lamsenjochhütte

Easy hike, suitable for ages 6 and up (cab ride to Gramaialm), otherwise recommended from age of 10 years

Directions:
From Erfurter Hütte take the Rofan cable car down to Maurach or start already in Maurach. From there, take the footpath along the south or southwest shore of Lake Achensee to Pertisau to the start of the toll road into the Karwendel valleys (in Pertisau, follow the signs for "Karwendel valleys"). Immediately after the tollbooth turn left and follow the signs "Gramaialm" into the Falzthurntal. Now follow a wide, asphalted footpath in the forest with a barely noticeable ascent to the Falzthurnalm with the Sennhütte Falzthurn and the Alpengasthof Falzthurn. Here the asphalt section ends. Then on a gently rising footpath across meadows further into the valley (nowhere left up the slope), here and there crossing the usually dried up gravel stream bed, to the Gramaialm. From the Gramaialm first on the road or cart path further into the valley in the direction of "Lamsenjochhütte". Soon the mostly dry stream bed is crossed to the left. The route moves through the valley floor and past the turnoff to the Gramai Hochleger. From here on the stage runs on a steep path. It goes through the Gramaier Grund and towards the steep slope at the end of the valley (south), above which the Lamsenspitze rises prominently on the right. The trail then leads up the slope to the left for a short distance and then crosses scree slopes in the direction of the valley. Finally, the route winds its way up the partly gravelly and quite steep slope in serpentines. Finally, from the yoke in a few steps left over to the already visible Lamsenjochhütte.

Highlights:

  • At the start of the stage you look down to the Achensee and into the Karwendel. You will experience a view like looking through a keyhole at the Lamsenjochhütte: The Central Alps present themselves powerfully in all their glory.
  •  After Pertisau you enter the Karwendel Alpine Park: you cross flower meadows and the huge cirque below the Lamsenjochhütte. Chamois and golden eagles accompany you on this stage.
  • Since time immemorial, Lake Achensee, Tyrol's largest lake, has been used in trade as a transport route. In the middle of the 19th century the first summer visitors arrived, already in 1887 the first excursion boat "St. Josef" was launched.
  • The hike is suitable for families with children from the age of ten.
  • Tip: At the Zwölferkopf, directly at the Alpengasthaus Karwendel on the balcony, there is a spectacular eagle view lookout point. Through modern telescopes a unique 360-degree panorama is offered.
