Description

The starting point is at the Oberndorf tourist office. Walk in the direction of the swimming pool Bichlachbad into the Oberndorf forest park. The first turn to the right leads you to the chapel Bergkapelle, along slagheaps from past mining times. The deepest shaft in the world was dug there in 1597. Around 1600, the Heiliggeist shaft was already 887 metres deep and employed 1700 miners. Mining was the most important industry in the 16th/17th centuries. The Bergkapelle, dedicated to St. Nepomuk, is worth seeing. The chapel was built in 1732 in Baroque style, and beautiful fresco paintings by Simon Benedikt Faistenberger decorate it. The great conductor Herbert von Karajan was quietly married here. You cross the Rerobichlstraße, hike slightly uphill straight ahead to the Riederbauer and once again enjoy the magnificent panorama of the Wilder Kaiser. Continue through the hilly landscape in the direction of Buchbergbauer. A meadow path leads to the Dorfbachweg on the right. This takes you to the centre of Oberndorf.
