The Darmstädter Hütte is an Alpine Club hut belonging to the Darmstadt-Starkenburg section of the German Alpine Club in the municipality of St. Anton am Arlberg in the Verwall Group in Tyrol.
If you want to climb the Darmstädter Hütte on foot with your children, we recommend using the Rendlbahn cable car from St. Anton. This will save you a few meters in altitude and shorten the rather long walk through the Moostal valley. From the mountain station, descend into the Moostal valley and follow the forest path into the valley to the Kartell reservoir. Walk along the shore of the large lake and then make one last ascent before reaching the hut. Despite using the cable car, you should allow 4 hours walking time. If you start directly from St. Anton, you will need 5 hours. The Darmstädter Hütte is also the perfect destination for an e-bike tour, as the path to the hut is easily accessible. E-bikes in various sizes can be hired in St. Anton.
At the beginning of the hike we follow the description to the Tritschalpe. From here, behind the alp, follow the footpath to the Skiclub-Arlberg hut. On the right side of the Moosbach stream until you reach a footbridge, cross it and after a short while rejoin the Moostalfahrweg trail. Follow this until the end of the Kartellsee. There turn right onto the trail to the Darmstädter Hütte (AV 513). Take the same path back to the starting point (approx. 3:30 hrs).
