Description

We begin this round trip in Westendorf’s village centre (more parking facilities).  It is also possible to park at the Alpenrosenbahn gondola station and join the walk from there.  Walking along the Berglift road, we take a right just after crossing over a small bridge, which brings us onto a walking trail and follow this until we come to a shrine just above the “Dreiländerhaus”.  At the shrine we branch off to the left onto a narrow uphill trail, keeping to the left at the next fork on the path. Follow the beautiful meadow path along the edge of the forest until we reach a small stream. Here we turn to the left and climb up a seemingly steep forest trail to the Oberwindau road.  Turning right we walk along this road for approx. 700 m when we find ourselves in a little residential area.  Branch off to the right onto a downhill road, where after a few minutes, we arrive at the Daxl farms and the chapel. The road ends here so we follow a tractor path leading slightly downhill to the Windautal road. Turning to the right we follow the road out of the valley.  At the football stadium we branch off to the right onto the walking trail and after a few metres we reach Innsbruck’s Recreation Home.  Keeping to the right-hand side, we walk along a meadow path above the grounds of the home and arrive once again at the fork on the path above the “Dreiländerhaus”.  Branch off to the left and at the shrine again, we keep to the left. Soon we are back on a road which we follow, to the right, into the Holzham district.  The Boarstadl, a nice place to stop off for a drink, is on our left hand side, as we follow the road to the right (easterly) returning to the village in approx. 15 mins.  This is also a nice Nordic-Walking route!
