Description
The starting point for this challenging tour is the valley station of the Marienberg cable car. Follow the ski slope uphill to the middle station, then follow the forest path for another 50 m until you turn into the Barbarasteig trail at the edge of the ski slope (watch out for share trails! Mountain bikers!) Follow the trail uphill until you cross the Mure and then follow the forest road again. At the next bend, you have the option of continuing along the forest road, but we recommend turning off onto the ski slope to avoid the mountain carts. This is a much more pleasant option. The first part of the Marienberg Trail also runs along the ski slope. However, the ski slope is wide and offers the opportunity to run alongside the trail so as not to get in the way of the mountain bikers. The frequency is rather low. Once you reach the Sunnalm, continue along the forest road to the Marienbergjoch and turn left at the Almlift mountain station onto the trail towards Hölltörl/-kopf. Then descend into Hölltall and on the opposite side through Hällreise back up to Grünsteinscharte. At the next junction, keep left towards Drachensee/Coburger Hütte. From here it's all downhill. Follow the path down towards Seebensee and from there continue on the forest road to Ehrwalder Alm and Ehrwald.
