Mountain hikes Berwang - Abendspitze & Galtjoch

Difficulty ratings: medium
Route length: 5.8 km
Duration: 6:00 h

From the valley to the alpine pasture, from the alpine pasture to the ridge: that's about 1,000 meters in altitude on partly steep paths, but sunny meadow plateaus lay over a thousand species of alpine flowers at the feet of mountain hikers!

Tour character

The Galtjoch (2,109 meters) in the Liegfeist group of the Lechtal Alps can be climbed in several ways. Most routes start in Rinnen near Berwang and lead along easy forest paths, meadow paths and forest trails. A good basic level of fitness is required for a beautiful circular tour; you can expect to cover around 1,000 meters in altitude, a distance of 10 kilometers and around five hours of pure walking time. Every step past blooming alpine meadows is worthwhile!

Description

The mountain tour starts in the small district Rauth near the village Rinnen (2 km from Berwang).
In Rauth, cross the 1st bridge on the right and follow trail no. 614 until you reach a wide gravel path. Follow this part of the way, after the first right turn turn left into the path. Follow this in turn until you reach the next crossing wide gravel path. Turn left and follow it for a few meters, in the next bend you will come back uphill on path no. 614. After an ascent through the forest you will reach beautiful alpine meadows. Keep left on the wide gravel path towards Sennalpe Raaz. Walk past this and follow the signs to Abendspitze / Galtjoch No. 613. Approximately 300 meters after Sennalpe Raaz take the path on the right. Now it always runs up to the next crossing. Left is the summit Abendspitze and right the summit Galtjoch. Choose the left trail and hike  up directly to the summit of the Abendspitze at 1.962m. Hike the same way back to the crossing and continue straight to the summit Galtjoch 2.109m.

Descent options:
- the same way back to Rauth / Rinnen
- Descent to the Ehenbichler Alm (keep right at the fork between Abendspitze and Galtjoch and descend downwards across alpine meadows) and on via Rotbachwiesen back to Rauth / Rinnen
