The sporty long-distance hiking trail Arlberg Trail connects the five Arlberg villages of Lech, Zürs, Stuben, St. Christoph and St. Anton in three stages. With cable car assistance, the altitude difference can be reduced in a way that is easy on the knees!
This Arlbergtrail is a well-rounded experience: the well-marked circular hiking trail leads 50 kilometers through fascinating high mountain scenery, almost a fifth of which can be covered by cable car. The trail starts in St. Anton, Lech or Stuben, ideally in a clockwise direction, so that the routes and cable car rides dovetail perfectly. The entire circuit can also be completed in individual stages or easier alternative routes.
This stage of the Arlberg Trail starts with a climb up the Galzig. A wide path with a great view of St. Christoph am Arlberg leads comfortably towards the top of the pass. From now on, the Berggeistweg begins. Behind the Valluga inn, follow the signs to the Kaltenberghütte (trail no. 19). At the next junction, the Berggeistweg is written on the hiking signs. At first the path is leisurely, later steeper up to a saddle. With a view towards Pateriol and Kaltenberg, you hike to the Maroiseen near the Albona II lift station. The trail leads along a short goods path to the old Albonagrat mountain station (not managed). With a fantastic view of the valley into the Klostertal, the trail leads to the 2,089 m high Kaltenberghütte. After a snack, the trail continues with a direct view of the Flexenpass and Zürs across meadows and moors towards the valley. Hidden from view, the trail leads ever more steeply downhill past the Stubener See lake with a wonderful view of the stage town of Stuben am Arlberg.
