Mountain hikes 4 lakes hiking tour

Difficulty ratings: easy
Route length: 8.7 km

This circular hike from Kufstein takes in four lakes at once. However, if you (like us) are a bit of a panorama addict, you can still take in a small view of the summit from the viewing tower at the Thierberg ruins.

Tour character

Largely flat circular hike on forest and gravel paths starting in the town of Kufstein and passing the Pfrillsee, Längsee, Egelsee and Hechtsee lakes. Worthwhile viewing tower at the Thierberg ruins on the way back.

Description

Crystal clear water. Magnificent beech and fir forests. Interesting flora and fauna. The hiking tour leads around the most beautiful lakes in Kufsteinerland. Starting from Hechtsee, you hike along the shores of Egelsee, Längsee and Pfrillsee.

From the parking lot at Hechtsee to Egelsee, the path is not signposted. Accordingly, it is advisable to follow the description or to have a good hiking map with you.
In northern direction you start past a large, older residential building to the edge of the forest. There you follow the right gravel road past two family houses further north through the meadows. At a sharp bend to the right, where there is a small house (number 11), take the gravel path to the left into the forest. Follow this path until you reach a Y-junction where you take the right path downhill. Shortly after, another path branches off sharply to the left, which you take. With this path you reach after about 15-20 minutes the Egelsee, which is under Natura 2000 protection, and then first through the forest, then across a small meadow down to the northern edge of the Hechtsee. But the bridge, the outflow of the lake, the path is signposted throughout.

On the southwest side of Lake Hechtsee, follow its inflow uphill—a beautiful, idyllic little stream—and reach Lake Längsee, hidden in the forest. After crossing the main road towards Thiersee, it only takes a few minutes to reach Lake Pfrillsee. You circle around half of it. A small trail takes you halfway through the route. Heading back across the main road, a detour to Thierberg and the Thierberg Chapel is well worth it, offering a stunning view of Kufstein and the Kaiser Mountains. Returning via the same path, you pass by the Neuhaus inn and make your way back to Lake Hechtsee.
