Description

Beginning at Westendorf’s tourist office, we start this selective tour to the Rotwand Grundalm (MTB No. 208). We remain on the Brixentaler cycle path No. 21 as far as the Waldhof chapel, which we pass to the right and after a short descent we reach the Gasthof Lendwirt. From here the route takes us along the Windauer Ache, always slightly uphill to the Gasthaus Steinberg. Soon we reach the Gamskogelhütte on a good gravel path. Shortly thereafter, there are two short climbs to the Baumgartenalm before we reach the Krumbach car park. From here continue on the forest road, past the Foischingalm, continuously uphill. Surrounded by Alpine meadows, where you can see some cows and, with a bit of luck, a deer, we finally reach the Schreier Bründl, ideal for refilling drink bottles. From here you could reach Neukirchen, which belongs to the province of Salzburg, via the Filzenscharte, a pushing route. However, we cycle the last few metres downhill to the Rotwand Grundalm, where we can recharge our batteries with a traditional snack for the descent. The usual route then takes us back to the Jagerhäusl, from where we return to the information office by taking the asphalt road to our right.
