Equipment

The Ötztal Cycle Path features several steep sections and should not be underestimated in this regard.

The path crosses the Ötztaler Bundesstraße multiple times.

BIKE SAFETY RULES

  1. Always ride on the right side, at a controlled speed, and, if necessary, with half visibility—especially in narrow sections and sharp curves—as oncoming traffic or obstacles (e.g., bollards, barriers, stones, branches, cattle grids, or other vehicles) may appear unexpectedly.
  2. Be aware that the roads and paths used are often shared-use and may present obstacles at any time (e.g., agricultural and forestry vehicles, authorized vehicles, stored wood, grazing livestock).
  3. Be considerate of pedestrians and other cyclists. Overtake only at walking speed.
  4. Consider the technical and physical challenges of your cycling tour and accurately assess your experience and abilities. Beginners, especially those using e-bikes, should consider taking a bike safety course.
  5. Protect your head by wearing a helmet and check your equipment before every ride (brakes, bell, lights, reflectors, etc.).
  6. Follow traffic restrictions and closures. Close pasture gates after passing through.
  7. Respect wildlife and nature by staying on designated cycling paths and roads.
  8. Do not leave any waste behind.
  9. According to traffic regulations (StVO), only e-bikes/pedelecs with a maximum speed of 25 km/h are allowed on cycling paths.
Appropriate Equipment Rules! We strongly recommend to wear protective bike gear on all Cycle & Mountain Bike Routes within Ötztal Valley. Always take enough water with you!

Description

At the end of Oetz, the cycle path runs parallel to the Ötztaler Bundesstraße towards Habichen. Passing through the underpass in Habichen, you have the option to take a short detour to the picturesque Habicher See. Alternatively, you can tackle the steep ascent of the “Tumpener Gstoag” directly. The path leads through a small forested section (Seestall/Grube) before reaching Tumpen. In Tumpen, the route passes by the school and continues toward the Ötztaler Bundesstraße, which you cross, followed by another crossing over the Ötztaler Ache. From here, the ride becomes more relaxed as you roll towards Umhausen, passing the Engelswand rock face, the hamlet of Lehn-Platzl, and the Maria Schnee Chapel.
