Description

This challenging tour to the Kitzbüheler Horn, or more precisely to the Alpenhaus, begins at Brixen im Thale’s tourist office. This tour should most definitely be started in the early morning to avoid the midday sun. Via the Brixental cycle path, the route is initially very flat for about 14 km to Kitzbühel. At the Schwarzsee train station, we turn left and continue on this road, reaching the foot of the Kitzbüheler Horn via a cycle path.  After the railway underpass, the steep ascent begins. On a good asphalt road, the gradient is between 10% and 18% to the Alpenhaus. Past the toll booth and many encouraging signs along the road, we arrive at the Alpenhaus after an ascent of approx. 920 metres. The Alpenhaus has been a stage destination on the Tour of Austria for many years. Many professional cyclists admitted that they would rather cycle up the Großglockner than the Kitzbüheler Horn. That says it all. If you are still in good spirits after arriving at the Alpenhaus, you can tackle the last few metres of altitude to the summit. Past an Alpine flower garden and passages with a gradient of up to 22% you reach the summit with a sensational view.
