Description

The easy tour to the Kastenalm leads from Seefeld through the picturesque Hinterautal to the source of the Isar and to the rustic alp in the Karwendel. You can look forward to the most beautiful gravel bike trails with a lot of gravel through forests, wide valleys and along the turquoise waters of the Isar. The Kastenalm invites you to a delicious stop, and on hot days you can always take a break by the cool water on the banks of the river. While doing so, you can always enjoy the views of the impressive peaks of the Karwendel Mountains. Overall, only a few easy meters of altitude have to be overcome, which makes the tour a real pleasure round.

The start of the gravel bike tour is at the information center in Seefeld right next to the train station. From here you ride mostly in the pleasantly shaded forest past Giessenbach to Scharnitz. Here, at the gateway to the Karwendel, you will also find the Information Center and the Holzerhütte Museum, which invite you to visit and provide information about the mountain worlds of the Karwendel, its inhabitants and stories.

From there you ride into the Hinterautal, one of the three wildly romantic Karwendel valleys. First a short stretch on asphalt, later again on a forest road, you always roll along the clear waters of the Isar. Up to the Gleirschhöhe it goes up a few meters in altitude, but the view of the Gleirschklamm gorge far down in the valley is worth the effort. From Gleirschhöhe, the route continues mostly flat to the source of the Isar. It's worth leaving the gravel bikes here for a moment and walking a few steps to the source of the Isar. The refreshing water of the Isar gushes out of the mountain in several springs - perfect for cooling off tired feet or refilling your water bottle on hot days. From the source of the Isar it is not far to the Kastenalm.

Shortly before you reach your destination, leave your bikes behind and walk for about 10 minutes to the small alpine pasture, which lies idyllically at the end of the valley on a beautiful plateau. On the sun terrace you can enjoy an extended stop and let the views of the surrounding peaks wander. The way back is the same, whereby you can always find wonderful places on the banks of the Isar for further breaks directly on the water. Back in Seefeld, you can stroll through the village center, enjoy homemade ice cream or watch the hustle and bustle on the village square in one of the numerous cafés.

Tip: Other places to stop along the route are the only not far from the entrance to the Karwendel. Scharnitzer Alm and the Triendlsäge located near Seefeld.
