St. Christoph am Arlberg /
Difficulty ratings:
Route length: 26 km
Duration: 4:00 h

A dumpling paradise in alpine terrain. At a proud 2,384 meters above sea level, in the venerable walls of the Gault&Millau-awarded Darmstädter Hütte, you can enjoy the best dumplings. After the steep ascent, you really deserve them. Other highlights of the MTB tour are the Moostal valley, the Kartell reservoir and the jagged mountain panorama of the Verwall.

Tour character

The Darmstädter Hütte sits imposingly on a hill in the Hintere Kartell. If you want to reach it by MTB, you have to pedal hard. The tour starts at a leisurely pace and leads along a beautiful forest trail up into the tranquil Moosbach valley. After the Alpe Roßfall, the steep ascent begins via the Kartell reservoir to the Darmstädter Hütte. The gravel path requires good riding technique.

Description

From the Arlberg WellCom we are heading to the old “Rendl Bahn”. Across the Rendl-Bridge, a steep, but well surfaced road branches off into the Moostal Valley from Sankt Anton. After riding past the barrage weir for Kartell Reservoir, we reach upper Moostal and see the “Kuchenspitze” Glacier for the first time. A rough, partially boulder-filled gravel trail leads from the Kartell reservoir up to the “Darmstädter Hütte” at 2,384 metres above sea level. This section is also very demanding, as the air becomes increasingly thinner. The return route is the same as the outward bound. Here you have to be careful, as it is a steep descent.
