Mountainbike-Tour Biketour No. 578 Hinterautal-Isarursprung-Kastenalm

Difficulty ratings:
Route length: 28 km
Duration: 2:30 h

No houses, no pylons, just the bike and nature. All around you, the imposing rock faces of the Karwendel peaks rise up, with the young Isar rushing beside you. If there weren't such good mountain pastures along the way, you could easily mistake this for Canada.

Tour character

The route runs continuously on good forest paths and slightly uphill through the picturesque Hinterautal valley. After the steepest ascent at the Gleirschhöhe, the tour leads steadily and gently uphill to the Isarursprung. About three kilometers further on, the Kastenalm hut awaits.

Description

Route: Scharnitz Nature Park Information Center - Isarlodge Wiesenhof - Gleierschhöhe - Isarursprung - Kastenalm - Isarursprung - Gleirschhöhe - Isarlodge Wiesenhof - Scharnitz Nature Park Information Center

Description of the route:
To the "source of the Isar": Through the wild Hinterautal valley to the rustic Kastenalm hut
If you are looking for adventure, love mighty mountains and prefer a route with only a few climbs, you will find it all on the 14.5 km between Scharnitz and the Kastenalm.
The route starts at the Scharnitz Nature Park Information Center or the Länd parking lot and follows a low-traffic, asphalted municipal road for the first 1.5 km. Shortly before the Isarlodge Wiesenhof, the forest path through the beautiful Hinterautal valley begins. It is just under 3 km from the start of the route to Gleirschhöhe and is the only section that runs steadily and relatively steeply uphill. From the Gleirschhöhe, you cycle only slightly uphill directly next to the Isar into the valley, constantly framed by the mighty foothills of the Karwendel mountains. After 3/4 of the route has been completed, you come to the source of the Isarwith a lovely rest area and information about the valley and river. After another 10 minutes, you have to park your bike and walk the last 500m to the Kastenalm, which is located in a huge pasture area. From here you can also hike to the Hallerangeralm or the Hallerangerhaus (walking time approx. 2 hours). The entire valley, and especially the area around the Kastenalm, offers a "pure nature feeling".
Watch out for grazing cattle, please keep your distance and cross the grazing area calmly and quickly.

Parking facilities:

The following, cheaper parking spaces are available for cyclists: P1 (Riedboden) coming from Munich and P4 (Mühlberg) coming from Innsbruck.
From these parking lots you can reach the starting point at the Scharnitz Nature Park Information Center by bike in about 5 minutes.
