471 Kaltenbach - Wedelhütte

We don't make it easy for you on this MTB tour. After a long ascent, you have to make a decision: Feast on a steak in the Wedelhütte or dine in the open show kitchen in the Kristallhütte. But don't worry: you can't go wrong - both huts have received several Fallstaff awards.
This MTB tour in the Zillertal has an impressive 1,800 meters of altitude to conquer - the route over asphalt and well-surfaced forest roads is ideal for an e-bike ascent. The tour starts in Kaltenbach, from where you continue to the toll station on the Zillertaler Höhenstraße (free of charge for cyclists up to the Hochzillertal lift area. The Wedelhütte and Kristallhütte are two great places to stop for refreshments at the finish.
From the center of Kaltenbach you start on the Zillertal Cycle Path out of the valley to Ried, where you turn left at the end of the village and after crossing the railroad tracks you reach the village road. Follow the little-used road up to Riedberg and from there continue through the forest to the toll station on the Zillertaler Höhenstraße, where cyclists - unlike motorized traffic - do not have to pay a toll. The route continues uphill at a constant gradient, leaving the forest behind at an altitude of approx. 1600m and now offering a truly stunning panoramic view of the entire Zillertal. At the highest point of the tour for the time being in the Hochzillertal lift area, there are several excellent places to stop for refreshments. After a reservoir, a gravel path branches off to the right, leading further up into the ski area. About 1.5 km after the junction, you now have the choice of continuing towards Wedelhütte or Kristallhütte. You can't really go wrong, both huts are definitely worth an extensive stop.
