Description

From Kaltenbach centre you set off on the Zillertal Cycle Path out of the valley to Ried, where you turn left at the end of the village and, after crossing the railway lines, you enter the Dorfstrasse road. Follow the little-used road up to Riedberg and from there through the forest to the toll station of the Zillertaler Höhenstrasse (High Road), where as a cyclist - in contrast to motorists - you don’t have to pay the toll. Continue uphill on a constant incline and, at an altitude of approx. 1600m, you leave the forest behind and now have an awesome panorama in front of you extending over the entire Zillertal valley. At the highest point of the tour so far in the Hochzillertal lift area, there are several excellent places to call in for a refreshment stop. After passing a reservoir, a gravel trail branches off to the right, which continues up to the ski resort. About 1.5 km after the fork you can now choose whether to head for the Wedelhütte or the Kristallhütte. You can't really go wrong, because both huts are definitely worth a lengthy refreshment stop.
