Description

From the Festhalle in Fügen you set off past the Spieljochbahn valley station up to the village of Pankrazberg where you leave the Hochfügener Strasse road to the right with a steady gradient up to the Kohleralm mountain inn at the Spieljochbahn middle station. The asphalt ends here and a forest trail meanders up through the forest. At a distinctive crossroads at approx. 1400m (where you could shorten the ride to Fügen) the route turns and you carry on heading southwest and uphill. After crossing under the Spieljochbahn, the trail becomes noticeably level and you ride along the tree line with great views of the managed Geolsalm mountain inn with its inviting sun terrace. You can enjoy a well-deserved rest either here or you can bike just over 100 metres further to the Gartalm Hochleger mountain inn. Located at 1860m in a wide basin at the foot of the Kellerjoch mountain, you can enjoy traditional mountain hut food and visit a small showroom with old farm tools and a commemorative statue of Bruno, the well-known "problem bear". On the way back, you turn off left at the Spieljochbahn and bike past the reservoir down to the Kaunzalm in the rustic Öxltal valley. You bike along the valley for a short time before turning off to the right and crossing over to the Zillertal valley, where you coast down via Fügenberg to the starting point in Fügen.
