Description

From Fügen you set off out of the village heading south-west towards the valley, ride on a moderate incline over the fields between Fügen and Uderns and then past the picturesque St. Pankraz Church to the entrance of the Finsinggrund valley. There are a few bends on the road heading to Kupfnerberg before you come to the forest trail leading into the Finsinggrund valley. You now ride, always heading south-west, through steep, shady forests, mostly high above the Finsingbach stream. Again and again there are beautiful views of the sunny slopes of the Kellerjoch mountain. Shortly after crossing the Finsingbach stream, do not go straight on to Hochfügen but branch off to the right, cross the Hochfügener Strasse road once and continue uphill out of the valley until you reach the key point of the tour: a short but very steep climb begins where some bikers might well prefer to dismount and push. It soon becomes flatter again and a wonderful meadow trail leads on over the alpine meadows of the Gartalm-Niederleger. From here there’s another climb of 250 metres on forest trails up to the idyllic Gartalm inn, which offers Tyrolean specialities and also houses a small museum of farm items. After a refreshment stop at the Gartalm, the return route (Route 410) to Fügen takes you back via the Geolsalm and Äusserer Fügenberg. After the Geolsalm snack bar, fit and ambitious bikers can make a detour to the Spieljochbahn mountain station/restaurant (magnificent panorama).
