The Tannheimer Tal offers ideal conditions for beginners in particular: 98 of the total 140 kilometres of cross-country trails have an easy level of difficulty. The trails also have an altitude difference of no more than 50 metres. The excellent infrastructure and free use of all trails round off the cross-country skiing offer in the Tannheimer Tal. However, advanced skiers also get their money's worth in the high valley. Many lakes in the Tannheimer Tal provide impressive nature experiences. On the Gaichtpass circular trail, for example, you cross the frozen Haldensee lake and the Vilsalpsee lake can also be reached on narrow boards. The trail leads through a very scenic nature reserve in the Allgäu Alps, which looks like a fairytale when the snow is high in winter.
At the end of the popular Vilsalpsee circular trail, not only the icy Vilsalpsee lake awaits, but conveniently also an inn. In the Vilsalpsee restaurant, guests can fortify themselves after a cross-country skiing tour with a revitalising frittaten soup or cheese dumplings. This makes the return journey that much better.
If you want to combine a cross-country skiing holiday with wellness, you can book a room at the Haldensee Hotel. In addition to its excellent location on the Gaichtpass circular trail, the hotel offers a varied spa programme. Boot dryers and waxing facilities are also available. The Hotel Hohenfels in Tannheim is also a worthwhile starting point for cross-country skiing tours. Three circular trails can be reached quickly from here.
