Cross-country skiing in the Pillerseetal

The Pillerseetal valley in the far east of Tyrol is often referred to as the "snow hole" of the Kitzbühel Alps. Cross-country skiers will find an extensive network of trails in the region's holiday resorts, especially in the biathlon stronghold of Hochfilzen.

Nordic winter sports enthusiasts can choose from 18 trails with around 100 kilometres of cross-country trails in the Pillerseetal, with a total of more than 700 kilometres of trails in the Kitzbühel Alps. Perfectly groomed trails for classic style and skating as well as the modern infrastructure will delight beginners and advanced skiers alike. The floodlit village trails in Waidring and Hochfilzen provide cross-country skiing fun in the evening.

The action heats up every December in Hochfilzen: every December, the elite of the biathlon sport meet at the Hochfilzen Biathlon World Cup and compete for important World Cup points in the sprint, relay and pursuit disciplines. In 2017, Hochfilzen even hosted the 49th Biathlon World Championships.
