The varied network of cross-country ski trails in East Tyrol with 400 kilometres of trails from 673 to 2,052 metres above sea level will delight beginners, advanced skiers and professionals. The elite of the international biathlon scene meets at the cross-country and biathlon centre in Obertilliach at 1,450 metres above sea level from the beginning of November due to the excellent snow conditions. Every Thursday at 7.30 pm, those interested have the opportunity to take a look behind the scenes of biathlon sport.
Fit cross-country skiers can glide from Lienz to Sillian on the 35-kilometre Pustertal cross-country ski trail. The route runs along the Drau cycle path and can be extended with a rewarding border crossing. The Pustertal cross-country ski trail is part of the 100 kilometre long "Trans Dolomiti" trail network, which connects Kartitsch with the Italian town of Cortina d'Ampezzo. At Kartitscher Sattel, directly on the Grenzlandloipe, East Tyrolean specialities are served in a guesthouse steeped in history. The Klammerwirt near Rauchenbach, first mentioned in a document in 1545, used to be a favourite haunt of timber merchants.
The Hotel Weiler is located directly on the competition trail in Obertilliach. Cross-country skiers can relax in cosy rooms there after an active day in the great outdoors. Lots of wood and warm colours ensure a cosy atmosphere. Hotel guests are also not far from the East Tyrol Biathlon Centre. Not only professionals, but also amateur athletes train in biathlon shooting there.
