Cross-Country Skiing

Cross-country skiing at Lake Achensee

The area around Lake Achensee is one of the most popular cross-country skiing regions in Tyrol. The cross-country ski trail network, which is over 200 kilometres long in total, connects Maurach with Pertisau, Achenkirch and the snow-covered valleys of the Karwendel.

The different topographical features of the region - from gently undulating on the shores of Lake Achensee to sporty and challenging in the Karwendel valleys - enable cross-country skiing tours at all levels of difficulty. Classic trails and skating tracks mostly run parallel to each other, linked by a well thought-out guidance system. Apart from Pertisau, the use of all cross-country trails is free of charge.

Beginners will especially enjoy the gently rolling hill and panoramic trails right on the shores of Tyrol's largest lake. For absolute beginners, there is even a practice trail in Pertisau, where braking and changing lanes can be practised in detail. The cross-country skiing centre in Pertisau at the entrance to the Karwendel is the ideal starting point for the cross-country trail network on Lake Achensee. There is even a dedicated dog trail here, where masters and mistresses can enjoy the winter together with their four-legged friends.
