Route description

From the mountain station of the Kaiserlift, the trail first descends into the Gaisbachgraben before ascending again to the Kaindlhütte. From the Kaindlhütte, the route heads towards the Scheffauer, initially crossing an alpine meadow and then continuing through the forest. Upon emerging from the forest at the top, you bypass the large cirque on the right, traverse directly at the base of the wall back to the left, and reach the starting point of the via ferrata. From this point, the route is secured with steel cables at the most challenging sections and generously equipped with step brackets. The via ferrata begins with A/B sections, a few A sections, and an unprotected chimney exit. Upon reaching the transition towards Scheffau, you take the final ascent to the summit on the right via a well-maintained hiking path.

In principle, the Widauersteig is also suitable for via ferrata beginners. The path is very well marked and well secured. Nevertheless, a head for heights and good surefootedness are required. Wearing a helmet is also recommended, as rocks can be triggered both by yourself and by other hikers.
