Via ferrata Kaiserschützensteig - 3 peaks crossing

Ebbs
Difficulty ratings: B/C
Duration: 2:30 h
Altitude: 880 hm

If there were top models among the Tyrolean via ferratas, then the Kaiserschützensteig would be at the front of the catwalk. The scenic experience is hard to beat in terms of beauty.

We recommend because

Alpine, long and popular via ferrata amidst the particularly rugged rock faces of the Wilder Kaiser. The Kaiserschützensteig leads to three peaks: the Kleine Halt (2,122 meters), the Gamshalt (2,289 meters) and the Ellmauer Halt (2,342 meters), the highest elevation of the Wilder Kaiser. Moderate level of difficulty with B/C and 1+. But: Due to the length and the meters of ascent and climbing (approx. 2,000), it is very demanding in terms of fitness and strength. Between rope-insured passages, there is always unsecured walking terrain and crossings that require absolute surefootedness and a head for heights. The ascents and descents are also demanding. A total of 11 to 12 hours should be planned. Only suitable for young people if they are very fit and have alpine experience.

Route description

The Kaiserschützensteig is a long, alpine via ferrata with difficulty ratings of B/C and 1+. Not all sections of the route are secured with cables, and you’ll frequently find yourself in unsecured hiking terrain. Absolute surefootedness and a head for heights are essential. The approach to the via ferrata and the descent from the summit of Ellmauer Halt should not be underestimated either.
While the via ferrata itself does not directly lead to the summits of Kleine Halt and Gamshalt, they can be easily included along the way. The reward for the effort is breathtaking scenic views amidst the rugged peaks of the Wilder Kaiser.
