Route description

ATTENTION: EXIT AT THE KAISER MAX GROTTO CLOSED!
The Kaiser Max Klettersteig was one of the first "sport via ferrata" in Austria and is one of the most difficult sport climbing routes in the Eastern Alps. The extreme Via ferrata has two sections. Section 1 leads to the Kaiser Max Grotte and is rated D, section 2 leads up to a height of 960 m and is somewhat more difficult than section 1 and rated (E). From the emperor Max Grotte could on the easy and secured hiking trail (Kaiser Max Grottensteig) again dismount. Section 2 is very exposed and leads over vertical and hardly stepped, smooth plates up to the wall book. Here you can turn left (west) over bands to the descent via ferrata. The last section, according to the wall book, is again extremely steep and heavy. The Kaiser Max via ferrata, especially section 2, should only be committed if you have a lot of experience and arm strength. At strong wind or foehn storm, more rockfall is to be expected. The via ferrata offers a magnificent view of Zirl, the surrounding upper Inn valley, to the Kalkkögeln and the Sellrainer mountains.
