Single trails and bike park in Sölden in Ötztal.
In June, the whole country is on the move. Hiking enthusiasts are out and about on the soon-to-be snow-free mountains and mountain bike fans have long since been riding along the spruced-up trails. Around Tyrol's mountain peaks, not only the bike brakes are glowing, but also the lights of the mountain fires. Those who prefer to set the dance floor alight are in good hands at the Innsbruck Heart of Noise Festival.
Sölden not only provides the mountain bike community with unique trails, but also turns them into citizens of the Bike Republic. Equipped with their own passport, the "Bike Republicans", as they are known there, are allowed to explore and ride built and natural trails on site - including the Leiterberg Trail, which is one of the country's Great Trails. In addition to the pump track, Europe's first big air outdoor jump facility for BMX bikers will also be scrutinised at the Bike Republic's season opening. And the inauguration of new lines is eagerly awaited.
In June, not only motivated bike fans, but also the alpine roses bloom, which can be admired on mountain slopes all over the country. For example on the Alpine Rose Trail in St. Anton.
In June, the mountain slopes and peaks of the region are not only in bloom, but also ablaze - on two occasions: Around the time of the summer solstice, Tyroleans light small fires on mountain peaks. This is how the shortest night of the year is celebrated according to a medieval custom. In Innsbruck, you can experience these goings-on directly on the mountain with a supporting programme by taking the Nordkettenbahn cable car. The Tyroleans sometimes commemorate the battles against the French and Bavarians around 1800 with bonfires of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, where figures of lights in the form of religious motifs such as doves or crosses are placed on the mountains. In the Tannheimer Tal, one of the most beautiful high valleys in Europe, you can experience a silent spectacle of thousands of lights.
At the beginning of June, the mountains may not yet be glowing in Innsbruck City, but the dance floors at this year's Heart of Noise Festival are.
