Tyrol is already in full bloom in May - nature invites you to go hiking and biking and the brave dare to take a dip in the mountain lake after a strenuous tour. Our programme this month is as refreshing as May itself: In addition to a bike tour along the Inn Cycle Path, which is over 500 kilometres long in total, there is also a city trip to Innsbruck, the capital of the Alps, and excellent music festivals such as the Tschirgart in Imst or the Stoabeatz in Kaiserwinkl in Kufstein.
One of the most beautiful long-distance cycle paths in the Alps leads around 230 kilometres through Tyrol. On the Inn Cycle Path, you can follow the course of the river that gave its name to the capital of Tyrol. The route starts in the Swiss village of Maloja - not far from where the Inn rises - and leads through the towns and villages of the Tyrolean Inn Valley to Passau, where the Inn flows into the Danube. Anyone who thinks that cycling in Tyrol only means conquering mountain roads is wrong. On the 230-kilometre route from Landeck to Passau, the difference in altitude is only 300 metres. The Tyrolean section of the cycle route is home to extraordinary towns and cities such as Innsbruck, Hall, Schwaz and Rattenberg, which should not be missed along the way.
If you prefer a more leisurely approach, you can also explore the provincial capital of Innsbruck without a bike. You can experience a lot in a short time in this Alpine city. For a day trip, it's worth taking a morning stroll through the old town and its charming alleyways, shops and small cafés. The bus line "The Sightseer" takes guests directly from the stops "Maria-Theresien-Straße" or "Landesmuseum" to a gem overlooking Innsbruck. Ambras Castle is a magnificent building from the Renaissance period which, thanks to the collecting frenzy of its former owner, Ferdinand II, houses a cabinet of curiosities and the oldest museum in the world. After a guided tour through the rooms, you can round off the afternoon in the castle park and later try a detour into the lively nightlife of the student city.
The festival summer starts a little earlier in Tyrol. The Tschirgart Jazz Festival, which will once again bring world stars to Imst this year, marks the start here. Younger audiences are in good hands at the Kieselbeatz Festival at Lake Walchsee in Kufstein.
