If a float can't get through, the gutter has to give way. "That's just the way it is when the Imschter go to carnival!" Tradition is lived passionately here.
The size of the event, with around 900 men taking part and more than 20,000 spectators, is impressive - as is the "commitment" of the people of Imst to their centuries-old carnival. Spectators get goosebumps at the latest in the final circle on the town square during the "Z'sammschalle", when all the participants gather their last strength in the twilight, jump despite blisters on their feet, twirl their skirts and ring bells.
