Customs and tradition in Tyrol

Due to the remoteness of many valleys, countless traditions and linguistic dialects have developed in the Alpine Tyrol over the centuries. Many of them are still kept alive today with great dedication.

With magnificent masks and costumes, the carnival events are celebrated more exuberantly than almost anywhere else. The midsummer bonfires, a medieval custom, light up summit rocks and mountain slopes with the most beautiful flames. The more than 40 cattle drives at the end of the summer are a colourful spectacle, when magnificently decorated cattle, sheep and goats return to the valleys. And at Christmas time, the Tyroleans bring the year to a contemplative close with their children at the magical Christmas markets.
