Attraction The Wildsee lake

Seefeld

Description

The Wildsee lake between Reith and Seefeld is as old as the mountains themselves while the small settlement known as ‘Sevelt’ (‘field by the lake’) was documented as early as 1022. By the time of Emperor Maximilian 1st, the area around the Wildsee was known for its lush flora and fauna and in those days the lake itself was referred to locally as ‘Lampretensee’ due to the lamprey found in its waters. However, the lake was only ever used for economic purposes for a few decades and now this natural jewel is protected and even fishing is prohibited.

One of the best views of the picturesque Wildsee and the magnificent mountain backdrop is from the top of the nearby ‘Pfarrhügel’ (parish hill) behind the church in the village square.

Gentle walking trail for the whole family
The leisurely circular hike leads through Seefeld's most beautiful corners and combines impressive nature experiences with cultural highlights. Discover the Parish church St. Oswald, the apostle's circle at the Parish hill, the iconic Seekirchl, the lively pedestrian zone, the idyllic Reither Moor and the picturesque Wildsee lake.

Winter hike
In winter, the Wildsee has a very special atmosphere: snow-covered lakeside paths, picturesque winter landscapes and some of the most beautiful highlights in the region. This relaxed hike is an absolute must in the cold season!

Bathing & ‘Kneipp’ (water therapy) facilities
You can cool off at one of two bathing beaches. The lakeside restaurant Strandperle not only serves delicious food, you can also rent pedalos, rowing boats and SUP boards there and the restaurant has its own play area and beach volleyball area too. The bathing beach by Waldbad Sonja on the other hand, is a little quieter and is the perfect spot if you are simply looking to relax. And of course there is the large public ‘Kneipp’ (water therapy) facility for a slightly more unusual way of cooling off! There are also numerous benches around the lake where you can sit and while away the hours.

Stand-up paddling
Whether just for fun or as a complete body workout - stand-up paddling (SUP) is the ideal balance between sport and relaxation in the middle of the nature reserve. SUP boards can be hired or lessons can be booked at the Strandperle outdoor pool.
