Description

Surrounded by a cemetery with enclosing wall. Built between 1751 and 1754 to replace an earlier structure. Imposing Baroque longitudinal building with a shingle-covered gable roof, transept-like side chapels, and a recessed round arch choir. Northern side extensions of tower and sacristy. The facades enlivened by simple framing architectural painting and the characteristic shaping of the windows. The essentially medieval tower with octagonal superstructure and onion dome. The richly designed interior centralizes through the characteristic rounding of the longitudinal house corners, with wide arch fields between pillar-like wall sections. Flat ceiling over profiled timber and wide cove. Continuous double gallery in the west. High-quality wall paintings depicting scenes from the life of St. Catherine (1753/1554). Below the choir space, a crypt chapel as a three-nave, cross-vaulted column hall.
