The Rochus Chapel on the Scourge was built in 1611 as a plague chapel

Description

Located off the southern edge of the village, the chapel at Geisel was built in 1611 in Gothic-reminiscent architecture after the rampant plague, dedicated to saints Rochus and Sebastian.
Above the pulpit hangs the well-known and most valuable painting; the Massacre of the Innocents in Bethlehem.
The Rochus Chapel, colloquially known as “Geißel,” celebrated its three-hundredth anniversary on August 15, 1925. The chapel was newly renovated at that time. It is the oldest sacred building and was restored in a very successful restoration in 1985.

Classical concerts by candlelight take place here in the summer - see events for dates.
