Attraction Pfarrhügel/Pfarrbichl (parish hill)

Seefeld

Between Seefeld's historic village center and the Wildsee lies the picturesque Parish Hill, also known as Pfarrbichl, nestled in a scenic setting.

Description

Pfarrhügel/Pfarrbichl (parish hill) with Apostle Circle

The parish hill (Pfarrhügel/Pfarrbichl) enjoys a picturesque setting between the Seefeld village centre and the lake, the Wildsee.

There are several ways to walk up and over the parish hill and there are conveniently-positioned benches where visitors can sit and while away the hours. The Seefeld Stations of the Cross trail starts at the St. Oswald parish church and has 14 stations culminating at the Apostle Circle, which was erected in the year 2000. The erratic boulders, which weigh up to 23 tonnes, are set in a specific star constellation and depict the Last Supper. It was the writer, Winfried Werner Linde, who felt that this powerful location on the highest point of the parish hill could serve as a peaceful meeting place for people of all world religions. More details are available on the information boards on the parish hill.

The parish hill is worth visiting not just for the Apostle Circle, but also for the view over the lake and the village centre. There are sometimes open-air church services held there too. It is a lovely tranquil spot where you can unwind and recharge your batteries while enjoying the clear mountain air.
Sigis Sauhaufen (Sigi’s Pigsty), a petting zoo and organic farm, is also located on the parish hill.

Anyone exploring Seefeld should definitely try to visit the parish hill in order to appreciate the unique atmosphere there.
