Palais Claudiana

Description

Palais Claudiana is the name of the former government building of the federal state of Tyrol, located on the edge of Innsbruck’s Old Town and named after Countess Claudia de Medici. The influential lady from the Italian royal family designed the building in the 17th century, and extended it with a large hall with a wonderfully-decorated Renaissance wooden ceiling. An event ticket is required for those who wish to view the ceiling, as the hall is only open for selected events. Also worth seeing are the portraits of various dukes and duchesses, which serve as examples for the statues at the tomb of Maximilian I in the royal court church (Hofkirche).
