Hausbergkapelle

Description

The "Hausberger Chapel" is also one of the typical house and farm chapels that were once built in the remote parts of the village because of the long church roads. As is well known, Oberhausberg was the childhood home of the famous field priest Matthias Ortner (1877 - 1960), who became famous far beyond the borders of the former Austro-Hungarian monarchy for his praiseworthy work as a field curate (clergyman) in the First World War. He is said to have walked the 40 km long front line in the Ortler region every day to provide pastoral support to "his" emperor's riflemen and Tyrolean land strikers, to read masses and to care for the fallen.
