Dorfertal-valley

Description

Dorfertal is one of the most magnificent valleys in Hohe Tauern National Park. It is rich in history and a centre in the conflict of interests between preserving nature and the energy industry.

Thundering waterfalls, creeks accompanying the stream, moors, a stream creeping in many curves, larch forests and flowery meadows, glaciers and lakes, chamois and ibex, as well as eagles, bearded vultures, dippers, marmots and a multitude of butterflies can be observed.

The entrance to the Dorfertal is a narrow, wild-romantic gorge, the Dabaklamm. In its further course, the valley opens to a broad U-shaped alpine valley, which is a natural gem thanks to its scenic features, the old mountain huts and the grazing cattle in summer.
