Description

Capercaillies Höllensteinhütte

An info point takes young and old into the fascinating world of wild chickens. The wild chickens are collectively referred to in biology as grouse, which include the capercaillie, the black grouse, the hazel grouse, and the ptarmigan. All four species have "rough feet" that function like snowshoes, preventing them from sinking into powder snow even in winter. This is because all grouse stay with us even in the cold winter and do not fly south to warmer regions like other species.

In the exhibition, you will learn everything about their adaptation strategies, their habitat, and their behavior. Since 2019, the nature park has also been conducting intensive research on the ptarmigan. The goal is to monitor the population in the long term and study its behavior in relation to climate change. Children can look forward to three great coloring pictures and an exciting quiz booklet where they can playfully answer questions about the chickens.

Please note the opening hours of the Höllensteinhütte!
