4-peak-tour: Wetterkreuzspitze (2254m) - Marchkopf (2499m) - Gedrechter (2217m) - Arbiskopf (1944m) (Trail No. 31, 35)

Description

Starting from the terrace of the Kaltenbacher Skihütte ski hut, follow the trail to the newly created wildlife trail and bear right to join this path. Hike out of the valley until the end (it is also well worth making a detour to Hubertuskapelle chapel) and then follow the forest road until you reach the Hochalm pasture. Head between the buildings on the pasture and past the stone hut as you make your way uphill through the Alpine meadows in bloom. The well-marked path covers a number of wide hairpin bends during its continuous and at times steep ascent up to the Wetterkreuzspitze summit. Slightly below this, the trail branches off to the left in the direction of the Marchkopf summit: This section starts on a narrow path along the ridge, with sure-footedness an essential requirement as the route is somewhat exposed at certain points. As you head across a mixture of grassy hills and rocky passages, keep going until you reach the Zillertal Shuttle mountain station. Here, you will see the imposing pyramid-shaped Wimbachkopf mountain to the left and Hochfügen on the right. You then need to complete a short but occasionally steep ascent to Marchkopf summit, the highest in the Hochzillertal. The descent starts off along the same route, but shortly before the mountain station it branches off to the right in the direction of the Wedelhütte hut.  You should then keep right, head past the Wedelhütte hut, and proceed along the forest road through the Grubachtal valley. Hikers subsequently have the option of visiting the Gedrechter and Arbiskopf summits, after which the hiking trail leads continuously downhill and through the marmot enclosure before returning to the Kaltenbacher Skihütte hut.
