The highest peaks, the most glaciers, the rarest animals: take a walk on the wild side in Tirol’s five Nature Parks and Hohe Tauern National Park.
Vast glaciers, native pine forests, unique river landscapes and the opportunity to catch a glimpse of rare wildlife, such as golden eagles or ibex mountain goats – these are Tirol’s Natural Gems. The Land in the Mountains is home to five high alpine Nature Parks and Hohen Tauern, Austria’s largest National Park. Kaunergrat Nature Park is endowed with a particularly rich biodiversity; the highest peaks in the country tower over bubbling glacial streams and lush alpine pastures in the Hohen Tauern. You can explore one of Europe’s last wild river landscapes in the Lechtal Valley and one of the oldest protected areas of the continent in Karwendel Alpine Park. The valleys are full of primeval vegetation, with moorlands and over 500 year old maple trees. You will gain greater understanding of this incredible environment by joining one of the many guided hikes.
