Under the clear blue sky, with the cold alpine air tickling your nose and mighty mountains all around, Tirol's open-air ice skating rinks are a fine experience in the winter months. We have put together a list of eight ice skating spots in the region of Tirol.
When the temperatures begin to fall and the crystal-clear water turns to ice, these eight lakes in Tirol become enchanting outdoor ice skating arenas loved by both adults and children. There is nothing quite like the feeling of whizzing through the cold mountain air, wrapped up warm in a thick coat and scarf, as your feet glide across the ice and your eyes wander from one mountain to the next. Out in the middle of the lake, it sometimes feels as if the ice could go on forever. Many lakes also offer other ice-based activities such as "ice stock" (a traditional alpine sport which has many similarities with curling) as well as curling. The larger lakes in the region even have their own ice hockey rinks. Some lakes hire out equipment for these sports on site. And if things get too cold, there is always a restaurant or café at the lake where skaters can stop to enjoy a hot snack and drink while their fingers and toes warm up again.
