Visitors who have been to this part of Tirol before may know Ehrenberg Castle from the stunning view you get driving by. Whatever the time of year, this attraction near Reutte is well worth a visit and has plenty to offer for all ages and interests.
Built around 1290, the gothic Ehrenberg Castle has over the centuries been home to many counts, princes and kings. Today the ruins of this once mighty fortress lie at the heart of the Burgenwelt Ehrenberg, an ensemble also including the baroque Schlosskopf Fortress, the Ehrenberger Klause in the valley and the Fort Claudia. Together they once formed a formidable defence complex which has also served as an administrative building and customs station. Visitors can journey back in time to the Middle Ages and find out what life would have been like here for knights and their followers. All in all there are 14 showrooms open to the public. Children can look forward to special highlights such as treasure hunts and an outdoor play area. Last but not least, those with strong nerves can walk to Fort Claudia across the Highline179, a 400m hanging footbridge high above the ground.
